What is a multi media journalist?
Or should we call him a visual journalist? Certainly it’s no more the cigarette puffing reporter sitting at his desk in the newsroom happily hammering along on his typewriter.
He is a ‘new breed’ of the species, a child of the digital revolution. Instead of using a typewriter he is word processing on his laptop,
he is proficient with the following programs, to name a few: Final Cut Pro, Adobe Flash CS3, Actionscript, Apple Motion, Apple Soundtrack Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Apple Color, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Lightroom, all Canon and Nikon camera systems and many high definition video systems from Sony and Canon.
And that’s a real life example of a what a former student of the University of Missouri with a degree in Journalism has at hands when covering news, taken from the online presence of Will (WM SRITE). More than words could do, the multi media of his site explains what kind of tools a journalist nowadays has to master, let alone his pen and moleskine.
